Larry Ellis, DVM
Veterinarian
For as long as he can remember, Dr. Larry Ellis has been fascinated with the bond between humans and animals. He knows how much pets can enrich our lives and feels a personal responsibility to return the favor — improving the lives of animals is his ultimate goal. Dr. Ellis has been practicing veterinary medicine since 1975.
Dr. Ellis grew up in rural East Texas, where his family kept dogs and cats and raised cattle, hogs, and chickens. He attended Texas A&M University and volunteered at a local pet hospital while completing his studies. Upon earning his degree, he was accepted into graduate programs for both veterinary medicine and human physical therapy; needless to say, his love of animals won out and he chose the veterinary world! Dr. Ellis joined the Abilene Veterinary Clinic team in 1978 and purchased the practice three short years later.
The diversity of cases he gets to see every day is Dr. Ellis’ favorite part of being a veterinarian. He loves everything from dermatology and dentistry to cardiology, endocrinology, and orthopedic work. Dr. Ellis has a special interest in animal behavior and senior pet care. He has also been involved in many professional organizations throughout his career, including the local Humane Society and the Abilene Zoo. During his three-year tenure as Zoo President, he oversaw the building of the Discovery Center!
